Foods Resource Bank Partnership

    Global Opportunity

Through the Foods Resource Bank Ottawa-Barrington Growing Project, Barrington UMC joins forces with farmers in Ottawa, Illinois, in a unique program of growing and giving. Each spring, BUMC partners with Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottawa to collect funds to offset the input costs (seeds, fertilizer, fuel, etc.) for designated acreage on family farms in Ottawa. Our farmer partners donate additional funds along with the use of their land, equipment and labor to till, sow, tend and harvest that acreage. The value of the harvest is donated to FRB programs overseas that in turn provide local farmers with appropriate seed stock, water management and training for sustainable agriculture. Many FRB programs are supported by and work with the United Methodist Committee on Relief, Church World Service and Mennonite and Presbyterian Relief agencies.
