United Methodist Women
Mission statement: Turning faith hope and love into action on behalf of women, children and youth around the world.
The organized unit of United Methodist Women (UMW) shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
General meetings are usually on the third Thursday of the month. These meetings offer a chance to learn from special presentations and a time of fellowship.
On the first Thursday of each month, Grace Circle meets at 10:00 a.m. and Faith Circle meets at 1:00 p.m. The circle meetings offer a chance for small group studies. All women of the church are welcome to visit. It is not necessary to participate in all events to be a member of a circle.
Women of the Word (W.O.W.) is a Bible Study that meets on Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. in the church parlor.
BUMW also sponsors a rummage sale each year; the profits from the sale go to various local organizations and, through United Methodist Women, are sent to many national and international organizations benefiting women and children. We are also involved in various other mission projects throughout the year.
The Unit of Barrington United Methodist Women is a 2011 “4 Star Unit.” That means we have contributed monies to 4 channels of UMW giving:
- Mission Giving,
- World Thank Offering,
- Special Mission Recognition, and
- a Gift to Mission.
All funds are given to Women’s Division for mission with women, children and youth and for district and conference administration which fulfills the UMW purpose.

2012 Fundraising
October 5-6: Annual Rummage Sale
Copies of “New Beginnings, Old Favorites”, a hardback cookbook are still available. They are now just $10 for one or $8 each when purchasing 5 or more. They can be purchased in the church office.
Proceeds from these events go to various mission organizations, United Methodist Women, Marcy-Newberry, Meals on Wheels, PADS, Humboldt Park, Northern Illinois Food Bank, FISH Food Pantry, WINGS, Home of the Sparrow, Heifer Project, BUMC Hispanic Mission, UMCOR, ChildServ, BUMC Youth Mission Trip, and Noah’s Ark Scholarship.
