Be challenged and shaped by the Word of God and by one another in grace.
“Spiritual Formation is the process of being conformed to the image of Christ for the sake of others.”
– Robert Mulholland Jr.
Christian discipleship is a life-long journey of learning and becoming. At Barrington United Methodist Church, we offer a rich variety of opportunities for adults to learn what it means to be followers of Jesus and how to practice faith in the world everyday. Here is a place for you to deepen your faith and understanding by thought-provoking studies and inspiring dialogues. Join us, learn and grow in your relationship with God and others by participating in one of our many adult groups and classes!

Can sitting in silence or gazing upon a barren tree be our spiritual practice?
Howard Thurman said in his writing, Meditations of the Heart, “How good it is to center down! To sit quietly and see one’s self pass by!” The spiritual disciplines move us to face our deeper questions and eventually meet our core being. They are the way of life through which we are patterned and shaped by God’s grace.
This Lent we invite you to come and learn these disciplines that have been practiced by Christians over the centuries. Pastor Mi-Sook will accompany you as we learn from great teachers like Richard. J. Foster and Thomas Merton. Please check the Adult Faith Development table to see recommended resources.

Lenten Devotional: Pauses for Lent: 40 Words of 40 Days by Trevor Hudson
In this simple book, Trevor Hudson invites us to stop, focus on a word, read a scripture, pray, and then carry our reflection to practice each day. The word for the day and scripture will be posted on our church facebook page daily along with beautiful images for you to contemplate. Books can be purchased at the Adult Faith Development table in the Lobby.
