Disciple Bible Study

Disciple Bible Study classes provide opportunities for in-depth, long-term exploration of the bible in a small group setting.

Disciple I: Becoming Disciples through Bible Study
Tuesday mornings, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. beginning September 19 at BUMC
Facilitated by Pastor Chris and Anna Voinovich
This study covers the entire Bible (Old and New Testaments), following the biblical story from creation to the Revelation. Disciple study draws upon the work of scholars, the personal Bible reading and study of the participants, and dynamic group discussion.

Disciple II: Into the Word, Into the World
Tuesday nights, 7:00–9:00 p.m. beginning September 11 at BUMC
Facilitated by Pastor Mi-Sook and Chris Streed
This 32-week study offers a deeper examination of Genesis, Exodus, Luke and Acts, emphasizing the rhythm of coming to God and going for God – approaching all experiences of life as opportunities for faithful witness and service. Participants are introduced to and encouraged to practice spiritual disciplines especially the gift of Sabbath rest and renewal.

Disciple III: Remember Who You Are
Thursday mornings, 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. beginning September 14 at BUMC
Facilitated by Pastor Mi-Sook and Chris Streed
In this 32-week study, the participants will read the major and minor Old Testament prophets, with the exception of Daniel, and will read the thirteen Letters traditionally attributed to Paul. The prophets and Paul are continually calling hearers and readers back to their God and to a sense of who they are as a people “set apart.”

Disciple IV: Under The Tree of Life
Wednesday mornings at 10:00 a.m. There will be an orientation on Wednesday, September 6; classes begin
Wednesday, September 13 at First UMC West Dundee.
  Facilitated by Pastor Carol
Come and join Pastor Carol and fellow classmates in diving into the Gospel of John, Wisdom writings in the Old Testament, and Revelation. Together we will explore the metaphors and images in these particular portions of scripture and how they inform today’s understanding of faith. You don’t HAVE to have completed other Disciple courses prior, but participation in Disciple I is recommended.

Cost for each class is $35 for participant materials.
