What Is Church Membership?
The church, at its best, is doing its best to be the hands and hearts of God in the world around us. As we come together, seeking to be the church, we do so as a commitment, a covenant, and as a community.
It’s a commitment. A promise to the church and to support it with prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. Church membership is a profession of faith and a pledge to seek to live out that faith in everyday life.
It’s a covenant. A promise between you and the church that you will be a part of the community and that the community will be a part of you. Church membership is a two-way promise to care for, support, and love one another and to work together to live out the mission of Christ in the world around us.
It’s a community. A fellowship of people who believe that life and faith are best lived together. Church membership is a community that is not perfect, a community of real people with real lives who journey together on the path of faith and life.
Are you new to BUMC? Have you been around for a while and would like to find out more about our missions and ministries? Would you like to find out more about membership at BUMC or ways to take the next steps on your journey of faith?
If you answered “yes” to any of the above, you are invited to join Pastor Chris and Pastor Mi-Sook for an “Inquirers’ Class” on Sunday, March 5 and Sunday, March 12, both at 12:00 p.m. The first session will cover the mission, vision and values of The United Methodist Church and Barrington UMC. The second session will discuss the various missions and ministries of BUMC and ways to take the next steps on your journey of faith.
This is a great opportunity to meet our pastors and other newcomers, hear about how BUMC is transforming lives and making a difference in the world, and find out how you can get connected and live out your faith with us! To register, please contact Gayle Richard. Dinner will be provided, and childcare is available upon request
